West Nile Virus tappoi Euroopassa ihmisiä

WNV virusta on tänä kesänä ollut kautta Euroopan. Romaniassa on neljä henkilöä kuollut sen aiheuttamaan infektioon. Heillä oli muitakin tauteja. Moskiitto levittää tautia. Siihen ei ole rokotetta.

RUOTSIN TARTUNTATAUTIEN VIRASTO tiedottaa:

A 60-year-old woman, from the southeastern Constanta county, who also had hypertension and had suffered a stroke, is the fourth person to die in Romania from infection with the West Nile virus.

All four people who died were aged over 60 and had chronic illnesses.

West Nile virus infections have affected the whole of Europe this summer. The virus is transmitted in humans through mosquito-bites and is not transmitted directly between humans. There is no vaccine against the virus.

While infections are often without any symptoms, people are advised to see a doctor immediately if they suffer from fever, intense headaches, nausea, or abdominal, muscular or joint pains. West Nile infections may develop into meningitis or encephalitis, which could ultimately lead to death.
