Uuden H5N8 viruksen lähtökohta on Kazakstan, jonne FAO ottaa yhteyksiä. Asia vaikuttaa siksi, koska joudutaan kasseeraamaan paljon siipikarjaa, lähinnä kanoja, mutta myös kalkkunoita (USA noteeraa tällä tavalla).
H5N1 on pandemisessa alert- vaiheessa ihmiskunnassa ja asia nielee rokotuskehittelyvaroja.
