Hiv on pandeminen virus, johon ei ole rokotetta.

 Situation and trends


 

HIV continues to be a major global public health issue, having claimed 44.1 million [37.6–53.4 million] lives so far. 

 

In 2024, 630 000 [490 000–820 000] people died from HIV-related causes globally. There were approximately 40.8 million [37.0–45.6 million] people living with HIV (PLHIV) at the end of 2024 with 1.3 million [1.0–1.7 million] people becoming newly infected with HIV in 2024 globally. 

 

The WHO African Region is the most affected region, with 26.3 million [23.9–29.3 million] people living with HIV in 2024. Also, the WHO African Region accounts for 50% of the global new HIV infections.
